The debris flow of 28 August 1997 which occurred in the Riale Buffaga, a torrent channel in the territory of the village of Ronco s./Ascona (Ticino, Switzerland), has been simulated with a good degree of reliability due to the existence of morphologic surveys of the torrent channel preceding the flood event and the presence of a rain gauge that registered the rainfall event at a resolution of 10 minutes. With these data it is possible to conduct a quantitative analysis of the effect of a forest fire on the hydrogeological response of a given catchment. In the case at hand, a 10‐year rainfall event caused a 100‐ to 200‐year flood event. This result clearly quantifies the possible consequences of a forest fire in terms of territorial safety. Following the devastating Kocaeli and Düzce earthquakes of August andNovember 1999, the Turkish Government was faced with an enormousfinancial burden as a result of its statutory obligation to cover the full costsof rebuilding. In order to offset this liability in the future – which has hadan adverse effect on the Government's economic programme – acompulsory earthquake insurance scheme has been introduced for allhouseholders in Turkey. A key element for successful implementation ofthis novel and ambitious programme is the transfer of the earthquake riskabsorbed by the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool (TCIP) to theinternational reinsurance market. An earthquake loss model, described inthis paper, has been developed for the TCIP to serve as a basis for thedecision-making process with respect to the pricing of its insurance policy,risk control, the purchase of reinsurance, and the transfer of seismic risk.Sample results of the loss calculations are presented. 相似文献

Since the commencement of mining at the Himmetoğlu coal mine, northwest Turkey, serious stability problems have led to interruptions
in mining and some environmental effects. A geotechnical investigation was initiated in 1997 and the significant factors that
influence the stability have been defined. This paper outlines the results of the field and laboratory studies associated
with the causes and mechanism of the slope instabilities and their environmental impacts. The possible remedial measures to
improve the stability and to minimize the environmental problems are also described. Back-analyses and data from long-term
monitoring indicate that the failures occur along two or three planar surfaces by combination of faults and localized strata
steepening adjacent to the faults. The stability is sensitive to changes in length of the lower part of the basal sliding
surface and shear strength of the bedding surfaces in the overburden. Suitable remedial measures include slope flattening
(i.e. staged bench stripping), proper drainage and spreading of a rock blanket on the pit floor to increase spoil pile stability.

内蒙古地区地方性震级的量规函数研究 总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1
选取2008年1月~2015年11月内蒙古测震台网81个台站所记录的6342次地震事件,基于震级残差统计方法,计算了81个台站单台震级与台网平均震级的偏差、平均偏差和标准偏差。分析认为,BHS等6个台站震级偏差较大的原因可能是台站场地响应放大、台基风化等。台基校正前、后单台震级平均偏差值ΔMLi随震中距的变化曲线显示,曲线形态基本未有大的改变,台基校正后较之前震级平均偏差绝对值降低0.01,表明台基对地方性震级偏差的影响不大。同时,进行了81个台站的台基校正获得了内蒙古新量规函数,结果表明,全国量规函数除了震中距为0~120km时适合于内蒙古地区以外,其余情况下均偏高,不符合内蒙古地区的特征。因此,本文修定了全国量规函数,得到了校正后的内蒙古地区量规函数。 相似文献

We describe the in-orbit performance of the gas scintillation proportional counter which formed part of the Spacelab-1 payload. Discontinuities in the instrument gain are observed (similar to those of the xenon-filled GSPC's on the EXOSAT and TENMA satellites). A post-flight recalibration of the instrument was performed using synchrotron radiation, which found the discontinuities to be coincident with the xenonL edges. 相似文献

The role of geoenvironmental information is becoming increasingly important as legislative changes have forced developers
and planning authorities to consider more implications and impact on the environment of large-scale development initiatives.
Therefore, integration of surface and subsurface geoscientific information for development needs has prime importance and
provides a means of identifying potential problems and opportunities at an early stage in any planned development. However,
from the experience of recent natural disasters, it is evident that this was not case the taken into consideration in many
countries. In addition to thousands of casualties, many urbanized areas, industrial districts and large-scale engineering
structures suffered severe damages from the natural hazards due to many reasons including the lack of preliminary engineering
geological maps and zoning maps of the settlement areas. Turkey is one of the countries which is exposed to natural hazards
such as earthquakes, landslides and floods. In particular, the devastating 1999 Kocaeli earthquake, which affected the Marmara
Region of Turkey, focused the attention on densely urbanized and industrialized metropolitan areas such as Istanbul. The rapid
growth of Istanbul, particularly towards west with minimal geoscientific information resulted in an overwhelming pressure
on the natural environment. In addition, a large earthquake, which is expected to occur in the Marmara Sea within the next
30 years, also pose a threat to the city and its surroundings. In this study, on the basis of the geological, geomorphological
and geophysical reconnaissance study, an integrated geoscientific data were collected from the western region of Istanbul
and evaluated for geohazards. The paper focuses on the geological and geomorphological aspects that control the occurrence
of some geohazards such as earthquake-induced liquefaction, landslides and flooding. In this context, the geological map of
the region was revised and Quaternary deposits were classified into 11 units, in detail. Liquefaction-prone areas were evaluated
by using geomorphological criteria based on field investigation, by the examination of the available records from 88 boreholes
drilled on recent deposits and by the data from resistivity profiles. The landslides within the region were classified according
to their type, relative depth and activity. In addition, fluvial and marine flood-prone areas were also delimited within the
region. Finally, a series of maps such as landslide inventory maps, and maps showing liquefaction- and flood-prone areas were
produced with the aid of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to assist in designing further detailed site investigations
and to reduce costs by ensuring a more focused approach to strategic planning and site selection. 相似文献

On December 26, 2004 a great earthquake (M
W 9.3) occurred off the western coast of Sumatra triggering a series of tsunami waves that propagated across the Indian Ocean
causing damage and life loss in 12 countries. This paper summarizes the observations of lifeline performance, building damage
and its distribution, and the social and economic impact of the tsunami made by the Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation
Team (EEFIT) in Thailand and Sri Lanka. EEFIT operates under the umbrella of the UK’s Institution of Structural Engineers.
It is observed that good engineering practice can reduce economic losses, but additional measures are required to reduce risk

Using 116 earthquakes over M_L3.8 in the Inner Mongolia region from 2008 to 2015, the local earthquake magnitude M_L and surface wave magnitude M_S are remeasured. Based on norm linear regression(SR1 and SR2) and norm(OR) orthogonal regression method, we established the conversion relationship between M_L and M_S. The results were tested with Gaussian disturbance. The result shows that the orthogonal regression method(OR) result has the best fitting curve, and the conversion relation is M_S=0.96 M_L-0.10. The difference between our result and Guo Lücan's(M_S=1.13 M_L-1.08) may be caused by regional tectonic characteristics. M_(S Inner Mongolia) value is significantly higher than the M_(S empirical) value, with an average difference of 0.23, the difference distribution of empirical relation and the rectified relation is in the range of 0.2-0.3. 相似文献
